Visit Chelan County Hires New Executive Director

The Chelan County Accommodation Tax Advisory Committee, which is forming a new non-profit organization to lead the county’s tourism efforts, recently hired an experienced tourism and marketing professional to lead these efforts. . Starting August 2, Jerri Barkley, formerly of the Wenatchee Valley Chamber of Commerce, will be the new executive director of Visit Chelan Countyformerly called Washington’s Playground.

Barkley, who currently serves as director of destination marketing operations for the local chamber, brings to his new position a wealth of knowledge of Chelan County as well as experience in tourism marketing and sales. She worked for the chamber for nine years and previously served as Director of Marketing and Sales for Mission Ridge Ski and Board Resort for 10 years. She also serves on the Chelan County Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC); however, she will leave this position with her new role.

“I am delighted to have been selected for this opportunity to promote all of the county’s attractions and attractions, especially during these uncertain times in our travel industry,” Barkley said. “Chelan County is my home, and I hope to continue to use my experience and knowledge to do what I can to help grow our tourism economy.”

Chelan County Commissioner Tiffany Gering, who chairs the LTAC, is excited about the leadership Barkley will bring to the county’s tourism organization.

“Not only do we need to promote Chelan County as a destination of choice, but we also need help managing our tourism and recreational assets,” Gering said. “With Jerri’s experience, she will be a great asset as we grow. Visit Chelan County.”

Troy Campbell, LTAC board member and executive director of the Leavenworth Chamber of Commerce, echoed Gering’s sentiments.

“With Jerri at the helm, the opportunities this new organization will create will be a game-changer for many of our smaller communities, events and attractions,” Campbell said. “Our small communities have a new ally to help them expand their potential. »

The LTAC Board of Directors, which consists of four members representing tourism-related businesses and four members representing tourism-related organizations, has worked over the past year on ways to maximize and best manage the portion of lodging tax funds Chelan County receives that are dedicated to promoting tourism throughout the county. The committee’s goal is to have a dedicated non-profit organization that can better use lodging tax money, partner with larger communities, and help smaller ones with events, promotions, and strategic plans and marketing.
