Sports tournaments at the PCB are expected to boost tourist numbers during the summer season
PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WMBB) — Athletes from across the country will head to Panama City Beach this summer.
Tourism officials have scheduled sports tournaments at Publix Sports Park throughout the season.
Local leaders said these visiting teams are a big economic boost for the region.
“We know our visitors are going to be coming during the summer months of June and July, and our Publix Sports Park is just going to increase the number of visitors we have in the area,” said Lacee Rudd, public relations manager for the visit to Panama City Beach. mentioned. “They are having so many events this year at the sports park. I mean, the sports park just increases the number of visitors and helps the economy.
Tournaments translate into hotel stays.
“We love having them come because then we feel like we’re part of this sporting tournament and we’re having so much fun with them,” said Elise Jetton, vice president of marketing for the Holiday Inn Resort. “To see them walk through the lobby all dressed up and ready to go, then when they come back and if they win or lose they can relax here at the resort.”
The sporting crowds are exactly what Panama City Beach officials were hoping for.
“Our end goal was to be the number one sports destination in the United States, and I think we’re already there… It’s something that’s already happening,” Rudd said. “These families who come to experience the sports tournaments who also go on vacation to Panama City Beach: what more could you ask for?”
The first sporting event to kick off the summer tournament season is the Snap Soccer Trident Cup. It starts this Saturday at Publix Sports Park.
