Mp’s rural homestays to attract tourists from all over the world | Bhopal News

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh tourism department, in a bid to attract international tourists to rural areas of the state, is pushing for homestays in some villages. The effort was mooted as part of the MP Tourism Board’s rural tourism project.
In the first phase of the project, tourist activities will be carried out in about 100 villages to introduce tourists to the lifestyle and environment of the villagers.
Principal Secretary (Tourism) and Managing Director, MP Tourism Board Sheo Shekhar Shukla says the nature of tourism is changing.
“Tourists no longer prefer to stay in a five-star hotel or resort. They want to see rural life,” Shukla said.
Under the scheme, a subsidy of 40% of the construction cost of the new homestay will be given to the beneficiary; a maximum subsidy of Rs 2 lakh or 40% of the cost of upgrading the host family (maximum Rs 12 lakh) will be given to hosts.
According to officials, the grant will be payable in two instalments. The homestay established within the framework of rural tourism was implemented by Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board under four regimes (Madhya Pradesh Village Stay Scheme (Registration and Regulation) Scheme 2019 / Madhya Pradesh Farm Stay Scheme (Registration and Regulation) Scheme 2019 / Madhya Pradesh Bed and Breakfast Establishment (Registration and Regulation) Scheme 2019 / Madhya Pradesh Homestay Establishment (Registration and Regulation) Scheme 2010 (Revised 2018 ) must be registered with the scheme concerned.
In the first phase of the project, tourist activities will be carried out in about 100 villages to introduce tourists to the rural atmosphere.
Under this program, 1,000 homestays will be constructed/upgraded to provide residential facilities for tourists.
It will directly and indirectly provide jobs for 20,000 rural families and promote local cuisine, arts, crafts, folk music and dance, etc., officials said.
