A new attraction described as a ‘thrill ride’ has opened its doors to visitors to Aerie’s Resort in Grafton.

This is Aerie’s Alpine Coaster ride in which a two-person roller coaster sled glides down the Aerie’s limestone cliff over 3,000 feet of a stainless steel rail system.

Each sled can reach speeds of up to 28 mph as it descends the cliff by gravity, gliding along limestone outcrops with twists around the natural formation of the landscape, according to a press release on the ride.

Riders will experience seven hairpin turns. The person in the back seat controls a lever that allows the sled to speed up or slow down. The roller coaster ends with riders ascending 875 feet while being pulled by a cable system as they return to the starting point.

The roller coaster ride is expected to be open year-round for station visitors at 14 W. Main St. in Grafton.

Aerie’s Resort will have its roller coaster Grand Opening Ceremony at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 11.
