ald STATE POLICE IN SAFETY CAMPAIGN (Continued from page one) State Police officer has been given instructions to arrest every reckless driver instead of trying to warn or educate them. Mr. Stiver said the main offenses to be looked for are: passing on hills or curves or when vision or clearance is not sufficient to insure safe passing: failure to stop at preferential highways or stop signs; speeding through small unincorporated villages; improper lights: and driving while under the influence of liquor. Of all the drivers involved in accidents 3.1% were declared under the influence of liquor. Aecording to the State Police, of all drivers involved in fatal accidents 6.8% were drunk.
The fatal accident experience of drivers intoxicated was worse, than any other type of accident. The campaign will particularly be directed against this sort of driver. "Driving while under the influence of liquor absolutely will not be tolerated" declared the Superintendent of State Police. Last vear in the United States 8.520 serious accidents were caused by passing on hills or curves. The State Police Superintendent pointed out that it was a terrife gamble with the possibility of saving a little time.
