The Mamanuca Environment Society (MES) received a check for $50,000 from Marriott International on Sunday. The new partnership focuses on environmental sustainability as part of its Good Travel program.

Marriott International APEC President Rajeev Menon said the program with Marriott Bonvoy is about community collaboration and curating valuable experiences.

“Partnering with MES is a major milestone for all of our hotels in Fiji, as the program spearheads these unique experiences and, more importantly, supports local communities and the natural environment,” said Mr. Menon. .

“This reaffirms Marriott International’s commitment to supporting the resilience of local communities.”

Marica Vakacola, MES project manager, said that over the years they have worked in partnership with resorts and tourism operators in the Mamanucas.

“For the first time, we are extending our conservation work to the mainland and that includes Sheraton properties,” he said. “We are so privileged and honored to be partnered with Marriott International and with initiatives on rivers, mangroves and reefs. It actually targets the work that we do among the Mamanucas.

During this time, the Good Travel program will be championed by the respective hotel teams of Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort, Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay and Sheraton Resort & Spa, Tokoriki Island, Fiji, working closely with the MES assistance from which more than 10,000 mangroves, 3,000 native and fruit trees and 1,200 coral plants will be planted each year. The check presentation was made at the farm of the Denarau Golf & Racquet Club in Nadi.
