Doha: Ahead of the kick off of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in November, an assortment of outstanding new tourism developments will open across the country. From a winter sun wonderland to a watersports paradise, these developments each add something special to the country’s eclectic mix of attractions and activities to suit every type of traveler.

According to Qatar Tourism, by 2030, attracting more than six million international visitors will be the goal to make Qatar the fastest growing destination in the Middle East.

Qatar aims to capitalize on the influx of over one million visitors expected for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and show the world its hidden gems and unmissable holiday potential.

Qatar Tourism Chief Operating Officer Berthold Trenkel said: “The countdown to the World Cup is well underway and there are plenty of world-class attractions to come before the games start. Among the buzz around the tournament itself, we hope people will be wowed by Qatar’s new state-of-the-art tourism developments, which greatly enhance the country’s appeal as a premier holiday destination. There are new beaches for those who seek sun, sea and sand, theme parks and water sports hotels for adventurers, and plenty of new resorts, spas and restaurants for visitors looking for a more relaxing getaway. “

Five new venues that will open before the World Cup kicks off are:

The first destination which is expected to attract more than 1.5 million visitors per year is located on Al Maha Island in the city of Lusail. The theme park will be open from November to March each year.
The park will host 50 rides, including 10 thrill rides with 395 roller coasters, 25 family rides with a 150-foot giant Ferris wheel, and 15 children’s rides.
Doha Winter Wonderland, which will feature beachfront chalets, restaurants, festival games, rides and cafes, bringing the festive spirit to the Middle East, will be operated by IMG (International Marketing Group), the same company which runs Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park each year.

Located on the northern coast of Qatar, in the village of Fuwairit, with warm, crystal-clear water and constant wind, the Fuwairit Kite Beach resort is said to be the world’s kitesurfing hotbed. It is designed in a way that appeals to the lifestyle of the kitesurfer, equipped with restaurants, a swimming pool and a yoga studio and other facilities.
Fuwairit is a coastal village an hour’s drive north of Doha with excellent kitesurfing conditions thanks to consistent winds, ideal sea water and fine sand.

3- Al Barari Outpost

The Outpost will be the first of its kind in Qatar, integrating close-to-nature experiences, sustainability and luxury hospitality in a beautiful resort located in the world’s unique Inland Sea Nature Reserve.
Surrounded by towering sand dunes and wild desert, 21 luxury lodges with private pools will provide you with the perfect retreat from hectic city life. Stargazing, hot air ballooning, and immersive desert walks where you discover local wildlife will be among the experiences on offer, alongside “Emerge in Nature” spa treatments and sensational dining experiences.

Spreading over 1.3 million square meters, the island is close to the Lusail Stadium, where the final of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 will take place.

5- West Bay North Beach Project

The West Bay North Beach project is located along the business district of Doha, 10 minutes from the West Bay metro station and next to a number of major stores, parks and hotels. As part of the first phase, 6 beaches will be delivered for hotels surrounding West Bay to improve tourism, while the second phase will be announced later.

The project will add a unique entertainment destination for families and tourists in Qatar to enjoy excellent services and various activities in one destination. The project is expected to become a new top tourist attraction in Qatar.

Public and private beaches will offer distinct beach experiences with a wide variety of food and beverages, to create a sought-after urban beach experience for all to enjoy.

The wave of new resorts and attractions adds to a wave of openings in Qatar over the past two years. In March 2022, the Qatar 3-2-1 Olympic and Sports Museum was launched as one of the most innovative sports museums in the world. In 2021, one of the biggest theme parks in the area called Desert Falls Water & Adventure Park opened with 28 slides and rides. And last summer, a theme park called Quest Doha was unveiled with the tallest indoor roller coaster in the world.

There will also be many exciting events in Qatar after the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The country will host a Qatar Formula 1 Grand Prix for at least a decade from 2023, as well as the new Geneva International Motorshow Qatar.
